Volleyball Drops Pair at Naz

ROCHESTER, NY- The Utica College volleyball team dropped a pair of Empire 8 Conference games as it fell to Alfred University and Nazareth College, both by 3-0 scores.
 
Utica 0, Alfred 3- Game One Final
Juniors Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) and Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) led the way for the Pioneers in game one as Voss tallied a team-high nine kills and Faroni led the squad with 14 digs and 12 assists.  Classmate Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) chipped in with five kills and added two blocks in the loss. 
 
Freshman Jessica Macheda (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) tied Faroni for the team-lead with 12 assists, while Briana Toledo (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) aided the defense with 11 digs. 
 
Utica 0, Nazareth 3- Game Two Final
After falling down two sets to none, the Pioneers took a commanding 20-13 lead in the third set, before the Golden Flyers battled back to score the next seven points to even the score.  The teams traded points before the home team was finally able to take the third set 27-25.
 
This time is was Herringshaw who led the Utica attack with nine kills of her own, while Voss had five kills and Miranda Stockbridge (Waterville, NY/Waterville) tallied three kills.  Faroni once again led the team in assists (17) and digs (13), while Voss and Toledo each added nine digs. 
 
The Pioneers look to bounce back Wednesday as they host cross town rival, SUNY Poly.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
