BROCKPORT, NY- Freshman
Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) scored three goals in the first five minutes of the game as the Utica College field hockey team cruised to a 5-1 win over host Brockport in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Pioneers improve to 8-7 on the year. UC will return to action Wednesday as it travels to Skidmore College. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
Scaccia got things going early as she scored her first of the day just 2:45 into the game. Junior
Rylee Meelan (Clinton, NY/Clinton) assisted on the play. Scaccia found the back of the net again just 1:02 later as she put in a rebound. Scaccia netted her third goal at 4:23 as she scored on a breakaway.
Utica added one more goal before the half as sophomore
Ricki Haab (Stowe, VT/Stowe) scored her second in as many games off an assist from senior
Maria Orsino (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit). The Pioneers added a second half tally by Meelan to extend their lead to 5-0, before the Golden Eagles were finally able to find the back of the net.
Utica's
Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) and
Carly Tebolt (Wappingers, NY/Roy C Ketcham) combined for three saves in the win, while Brockport's Adriana DeDie and Sarah Beam totaled 11 saves.
