SARATOGA, NY- The Utica College field hockey team fell short as it dropped a 4-2 decision to nationally ranked No. 18 Skidmore College on Wednesday. Junior
Rylee Meelan (Clinton, NY/Clinton) Led Utica with one goal and one assist.
The Thoroughbreds took a 2-0 lead in the first half and added a pair of goals in the second half before the Pioneers were able to get on the board. Meelan netted her career-high ninth goal of the season as she rifled in a pass from
Madison Williams (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) off the penalty corner with 4:39 remaining in the game.
The Pioneers scored again with 32 seconds left as Meelan fed freshman
Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) on a 2-on-1 for Whitehouse's seventh of the year. It was too little, too late, however as the Thoroughbreds held on for the victory.
Senior
Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) made 11 saves in net and also had some help from junior
Madison Babicz (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford), who recorded one defensive save on the afternoon.
The Pioneers look to bounce back on Saturday as they travel to Union College for the regular season finale. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
