Women's Soccer Falls on Homecoming/Senior Day

Utica, NY—The Utica College women's soccer team hosted E8 foe Stevens on Saturday. It was Homecoming Weekend and Senior Day for the Pioneers, as Amanda Pawlikowski (Vernon, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill), Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's), Caitlin Hopkins (Climax, NY/Greenville), and Jordynn Miller (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) all played in the final home game of their college careers.

UC was defeated by the Stevens Ducks by a score of 2-0, pushing its record to 5-9-1 overall and 2-4 in Empire 8 competition.

The Ducks took an early lead, as Sammy Mount cleaned up a rebound around the net, scoring in the first eight minutes of play. With just nine seconds remaining in the first half, Julia Panko scored off of a Madi Chollet cross. UC was only outshot 11-9, but entered halftime trailing 2-0.

The Pioneers were able to draw three corner kick opportunities in the second half, compared to just one in the first. UC fired six total shots in the final half, but was unable to beat the goalkeeper. Stevens walked away with a 2-0 victory on the day.

Senior Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) placed two of her four shots on goal, while teammate Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) struck three shots that needed saving. Other seniors, Amanda Pawlikowski (Vernon, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill) and Jordynn Miller (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), both fired shots on net in the contest.

Utica goalkeeper Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) made 14 saves in the loss. The Ducks can credit Lindsey Mahnken for making nine saves and recording the shutout.

The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday for an away contest versus Sage. This Empire 8 matchup is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
