Pittsford, NY - The Utica College women's soccer team defeated St. John Fisher in overtime, 2-1, on Saturday. The Pioneers improve to 4-6-1 overall and 1-2 in Empire 8 competition, after its first win against Fisher in ten years.
The game was tight throughout the first half, as the scoreboard read 0-0 at halftime. Just two minutes into the start of the second half of play, UC struck first blood making the score 1-0. Freshman
Kierra Caissey (Gardner, MA/Gardner) netted the team's first goal, notching the first score of her collegiate career.
St. John Fisher was able to tie the game up in the 75th minute, as Kerri Orbach put a shot in the back of the net. Neither team was able to score again in regulation, and the contest went to overtime.
Six minutes into the first overtime period, UC's
Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) fired a laser from 15 yards out to score the game-winning goal and give the Pioneers their first conference win of the season.

Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) made a total of 12 saves on the day to help UC earn the win. Fisher's goalie, Melissa McGowan, tallied five saves in the contest.
The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday for a home game against Hamilton College. This non-conference matchup is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
