UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team remains home with a pair of games this week. The Pioneers will host SUNY Canton on Tuesday (7 p.m.) before facing off against crosstown rival, Hamilton College on Sunday (3 p.m.)
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off a split against UCHC foe Neumann University last weekend… On Friday, UC fell 3-1 to the Knights, before rebounding to earn a 4-1 win on Saturday…
Olivia Hirschy (Fort Wayne, IN/Culver Academies) led the way with two goals, while
Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) had two assists and
Danielle Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Balmoral Hall) had one goal and one assist…
Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) and
Jennifer Arts (Lakeside, Ontario/London Devilettes) also found the back of the net.
YOUTH HOCKEY RAFFLE: Youth hockey players are encouraged to wear their youth team's jersey to all home games this year… All youth players wearing their jersey at either game this week will be given a free raffle ticket to win a UC jersey.
GOING GOLD ALL YEAR LONG: All season long, the Pioneers will wear special edition gold ribbon uniforms to raise awareness for childhood cancer… The jerseys are currently being auctioned off online (
HERE) and bidding can be done in person at any home game this year… After the season has ended, the jerseys will be sent to the person with the winning bid… Additionally, Utica's game against Morrisville State on Saturday, Dec. 9 will serve as the Pioneers' 6th annual gold ribbon game for childhood cancer awareness… All money raised at the event and through the jersey auction will be donated to the family of a local child who is battling cancer… The Pioneers have raised over $22,000 for the cause over the last five years.
HEATING UP: Sophomore
Olivia Hirschy (Fort Wayne, IN/Culver Academies) has totaled five points (four goals, one assist) in the last four games… She leads the team with five goals and she is fourth on the squad with six points… Hirschy also leads the squad with a +6 plus/minus rating.
BALANCED ATTACK: 12 different players have found the back of the net this season… Sophomore
Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, CO/Norwich University) ranks second on the squad with four goals, followed by freshman
Katrina Cornick (Mason City, IA/Rocky Mountain Roughriders ) with three… Seniors
Samantha Husak (Jackson, MI/Belle Tire) and
Meghan Power (Windsor, Ontario/Southwest Wildcats) are tied for second on the squad with seven points each… Husak has two goals and five assists and three multi-point games this season, while Power has a team-leading six assists.
IN THE NET: Freshman
Gabrielle Igo (Phoenix, AZ/Northern Cyclones) and senior
Amanda Lupo (Auburn, NY/Skaneateles) have split time in net so far… Igo boasts a 1.71 goals against average and a .900 save percentage, while Lupo holds a .880 save percentage.
SCOUTING CANTON: The Roos are 4-1 overall (3-1 CHC) and they are coming off a weekend sweep over Salem State… Junior Tess Adams leads Canton with eight points (three goals, five assists), while three other players each have four goals so far… Goalie Brooke Susac has a .965 save percentage and a 0.80 goals against average.
AGAINST THE ROOS: Utica is 7-0 all-time against the Roos… Last year, the Pioneers came away with a 2-0 win…
Kayla Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks) led Utica with one goal and one assist, while
Jennifer Liu (North Saanich, British Columbia/Shaftesbury Titans) tallied the game-winner.
SCOUTING HAMILTON: The Continentals, who are ranked No. 10 in this week's USCHO.com national poll, have started the season 2-0 after sweeping Williams College in their first weekend of action… Hamilton will take on Morrisville State on Tuesday evening before traveling to Utica on Sunday… Michaela Giuttari and Olivia Hawes each have two goals so far… Goalie Sam Walther holds a .959 save percentage and 1.50 goals against average.
AGAINST THE CONTINENTALS: Utica is 10-8-3 all-time against Hamilton, however the teams have not played since the 2014-15 season, when they skated to a 2-2 tie.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers will have nearly two weeks off before taking on Morrisville State in the 6
th Annual gold ribbon game for childhood cancer awareness.
