Utica, NY –The Utica College women's basketball team is on the road once again, to face the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) on Wednesday. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
Last Time Out: The Pioneers fell to Hamilton College in their last contest, by a score of 52-40.
Ashley Mayo (Bronx, NY/Nanuet) led the team in scoring, as she finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.
Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) added 10 points of her own, while
Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) contributed a team-high nine boards. The loss brings UC's record down to 2-2 so far this season.
Statistical Leaders: Ashley Mayo (Bronx, NY/Nanuet) is the top scorer on the team through the first four games, averaging 10.5 points per game. Mayo also leads the team with a total of nine steals and has the top 3-point shooting percentage of 42.9%.
Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) is UC's top rebounder and is currently third in the Empire 8 with an average of 8.5 boards per game.
Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) is first on the team in assists, earning a per game count of 3.5 to go with her 9.8 points per game.
Scouting MCLA: The Trailblazers own a record of 1-3 heading into Wednesday's matchup. In its last game, the team fell to Curry by a final score of 59-50. Mckenzie Robinson and Karina Mattera both finished with a team-high of 15 points in the loss. Samantha Gawron recorded seven points, six rebounds, and seven steals, while L'Rae Brundige added 10 points. Mattera and Gawron are the top two scorers for MCLA, averaging 11 and 10.8 points per game respectively.
Against MCLA: The Pioneers hosted the Trailblazers in last year's meeting between these two teams. Utica defended its home court, coming away with the 66-52 victory.
Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) ran the show in the contest, finishing with a stat line of 15 points, eight assists, and five rebounds.
Ashley Mayo (Bronx, NY/Nanuet) contributed with 15 points and six rebounds, while
Rachel Hunter (West Islip, NY/West Islip) tallied 11 points and six boards. The Pioneers controlled the paint in the win, outscoring MCLA 42-26 in the painted area. Hard work on the backboards also played a significant role in securing the 14-point victory, as UC out-rebounded its opponent 43-28.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will be at home for their next game, as they play host to Misericordia University on Saturday. This non-conference contest will tip-off at 2 p.m.
