Women's Hockey Picks up Fifth Straight Win at Potsdam

POTSDAM, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team earned its fifth straight win as it downed host SUNY Potsdam 3-1 in ECAC West action Tuesday evening.

The Pioneers, who are 5-1-1 in their last seven games, improve to 14-8-1 on the year and 9-6-1 in the conference.  UC wraps up the regular season this weekend with a home-and-home series against Cortland.  The teams will meet in Utica on Friday (3 p.m.) before traveling to Cortland on Saturday for a 2 p.m. face off.

After a scoreless first period, the Pioneers got on the board just 43 seconds into the second stanza as Meghan Power (Windsor, Ontario/Southwest Wildcats) batted in a rebound as she was falling down for her fourth of the year.  Freshman Olivia Hirschy (Fort Wayne, IN/Culver Academies) and sophomore Kayla Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks ) assisted on the play.

Then, just over two minutes later, Kaitlin Parent (Myersville, MD/Middletown) found the back of the net for her second of the year, assisted by Taylor Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks).

Potsdam was able to get one back at the 15:50 mark of the second as senior Jordan Ott netted her team-leading 14th goal of the season.

Senior Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) all but sealed the victory with 1:02 left in regulation as she poked in a rebound for her sixth of the year, assisted by Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) and Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects).  Schnepp is now tied with 2016 graduate Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) for fourth on the College's career points list with 111. She now has ten points (four goals, six assists) in her last seven games.

Senior Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) made 20 saves in the win, while her counterpart, Alexa Pfieffer, had 32 saves in the loss.
