Women's Hockey Downs Chatham to Earn Series Sweep

UTICA, NY- Junior Meghan Power (Windsor, Ontario/Southwest Wildcats) scored the game-winner with just over six minutes remaining in the third period to lift the Utica College women's hockey team past Chatham University in ECAC West Conference action Saturday afternoon.
 
With the win, UC improves to 11-8-1 overall and 6-6-1 in the ECAC West.  The Pioneers return to action next weekend as they travel to conference foe, Neumann University.  Friday's puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. while Saturday's will be at 2 p.m.
 
Chatham opened the scoring at 6:54 of the first period as Kristina Block stole the puck on the half wall and ripped a shot into the upper right hand corner for her sixth of the year.  Utica responded at 15:14 as junior Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) put in a centering feed from Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) for her seventh of the year and second of the weekend.  Senior Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) also registered an assist on the play.
 
Schnepp gave the Pioneers the lead with just over five minutes remaining in the second as she put in a rebound for her fourth of the year.  Sophomore Kayla Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks ) fired a shot from the point that bounced off the end boards and right to Schnepp who slipped the puck in the open net.  Junior Veronique Lortie (Chambly, Quebec/Berkshire School) tallied the secondary assist on the play.
 
The Cougars evened the score at 18:39 as Erika Martin scored on the power play to send the teams into the locker room deadlocked at 2-2.  Jillian Rowland and McKenzie Haskins assisted on the power play tally.
 
The Pioneers came out flying in the third period and were finally rewarded at 13:17 as Power scored on a breakaway for her third of the year.  Lortie and Kayla Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks ) assisted on the game-winner.
 
Senior Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) made 19 saves in the win, while Sydney Isbell had 43 for Chatham.
