Utica, NY - The Utica College baseball team is scheduled for a three game set at Elmira College this weekend. The teams will play a double header on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. and one game on Sunday with the first pitch set for 12 p.m.
 
Last Time Out: The Pioneers dropped both games of the double header against Olivet College (5-8 and 3-10) in their final games of the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational … UC's Tom Carrigan (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) went 5-for-8 on the day with three runs scored and two doubles, while sophomore Tim Quinlan (Monroe, CT/Masuck) went 3-for-8 with four RBIs, one run scored and notched his second home run of the season …  JT Ross (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) finished the day 3-for-8 with two runs and one RBI ... The Pioneers' record is now 4-6 on the season heading into the matchup with Elmira.
 
Strong Start for Ross: Senior JT Ross (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) is coming off one of the best weeks of his career … He was named Empire 8 Player of the Week and Utica College Male Athlete of the Week for his performance during the Invitational last week … Ross recorded 15 hits in his 30 at-bats for a batting average of .500 … He tallied eight runs batted in and hit seven doubles throughout the week … In the Pioneers' win over Trine University, he finished 6-for-6 at the plate with four doubles, six RBI's, and scored four runs … Ross currently has the second best batting average in the Empire 8 of .543 and ranks third in RBI's with 13 … He also leads the conference in both hits, with 19, and in doubles, with 7 so far this season.
 
Freshman Impact: Freshman pitcher Griffin Baur (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) has already shown that he has the ability to make an impact on the mound for the Pioneers … In three starts this season, Baur has a 2-0 record with a 3.23 earned run average … He currently leads the UC pitching staff with 13 innings pitched and 15 strikeouts … In his collegiate debut against Yeshiva, he struck out nine batters and did not allow a single run or hit in four innings of work as he helped lead the Pioneers to a 13-0 victory.
 
Scouting Elmira: The Soaring Eagles are coming into these games with a 1-3 record but have not played a game since the end of February due to inclement weather … Their last game was on February 26^th, against Mitchell College where they were defeated 19-4…Cameron Heggie currently leads the team with a .400 batting average and has hit the team's only triple so far this season … On the mound, Conor Bawiec is leading the pitching staff with a record of 1-0, a 1.00 ERA, 10 strikeouts and one complete game.
 
Against Elmira: Last season, UC lost both matchups with Elmira in a double header at home … JT Ross (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) did have success in one of the games last season going 3-for-5 with an RBI … The last time the Pioneers defeated the Soaring Eagles was in 2015 where they swept all three regular season matchups.
 
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will return to action on Wednesday for an Empire 8 Conference double header against SUNY Canton for UC's home opener. The first game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
