Brickman House (Oneida, WI/Pulaski) tied the program-record for points in a single game (10) as he led the Pioneers with seven goals and three assists in a convincing 19-8 win over host SUNY Polytechnic on Monday afternoon. Utica's
Jake Bratek (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) added five points, marking his highest output in the orange and blue, while senior
Liam Wheatley (Rochester, NY/Webster Schroeder) added two goals and two assists.
The Pioneers have now evened their record at 3-3 on the season and return to the turf on Wednesday afternoon when they host Oswego State at 4 p.m. for their inaugural #OneLove game at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. SUNY Poly's record moved to 1-5 overall under first year Head Coach Brandon Misiaszek, who spent the last two seasons on the sidelines as an assistant coach with the Pioneers under
Mike Parnell.
Utica jumped out to a 3-2 first quarter lead behind two goals from House and one from Bratek. House, Bratek and
Dominic Castiglia (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) then registered consecutive goals in a span of three minutes to hand the Pioneers a 6-2 lead with 10:30 to go in the first half. The Wildcats were able to cut their deficit to three goals, 7-4, at the half.
SUNY threatened with the first two goals of the second half until the Pioneers rattled off four straight goals in a span of 2:10 to take a 12-6 advantage.
Utica went on to outscore the home team 12-4 in the second half, including seven of the game's final eight goals to earn the lopsided 11 goal victory.
Utica's
Nick Finnegan (Bayshore, NY/Islip) posted a career-high 14 ground balls as he won 21-of-28 face-offs.
Ryan Desveaux (Bowmanville, ONT/St. Stephen Catholic) recorded one goal and one assist, while Castiglia finished the day with three goals.
Sam Davi (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) added his second goal of the season for the Pioneers as
Matt Fedullo (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) and
Duwayne Matson (Oneida, WI/Oneida Nation) each registered their first collegiate goal.
Utica's
Harrison Bower (Northport, NY/Kings Park) got the start between the pipes, to give a day of rest to
Parker Smith (Dexter, NY/General Brown), and he posted a career-high 17 saves in his first victory of the season.
Andrew Davi (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) posted a career-high seven ground balls for the Pioneers.
SUNY Poly's Connor Elsenbeck tallied a team-best four goals for the Wildcats.
