Rochester, NY - The Utica College baseball team suffered a rough loss at the hands of the #25 St. John Fisher Cardinals on Friday, losing by a score of 25-0. The loss brings the Pioneers' record down to 11-10 overall this season and 5-3 in Empire 8 competition.
Ryan Palmer (Vernon, NY/VVS) went 1-for-3 at the plate on the day with a double, as one of the two Pioneers to register a hit in the contest.
Stephen Soria (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) was the other UC player to rattle off one hit, going 1-for-2 on the day. Pitcher
Kolbie Glionna (Hagaman, NY/Amsterdam)Â earned the decision in the game, as the loss makes his record 0-3 as a starter this season. Glionna pitched three innings before a pitching change was made.
Eric Sahagian (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland),
Josh Call (Syracuse, NY/Solvay), and
Brett Sarnowski (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville)Â combined to finish the game on the mound for the Pioneers.
Cardinal's third-baseman Thomas Pasquale went 4-for-6 in the game with two doubles and four RBI's. Teammate Vic Konstantinovsky finished 2-for-5 with one double and four RBI's in the game. Pitcher Anthony Brophy threw for five innings, recording five strikeouts and allowing just one hit. The win improved Brophy's season record to 6-0 this season as a starter.
St. John Fisher controlled the game from start to finish, scoring 14 runs in just the first three innings of the game. In both the second inning and the sixth inning, the Cardinals were able to bring in eight runs.
The Pioneers will be back in action on Saturday to continue their road series against St. John Fisher. The teams will play a doubleheader, with the first game of the day beginning at 10 a.m.
