Baseball Falls in Conference Game at St. John Fisher

Box Score Rochester, NY - The Utica College baseball team faced #25 St. John Fisher on Saturday for a scheduled doubleheader of Empire 8 competition. The Cardinals defeated UC in game one with a score of 4-2, but game two was postponed due to rainy weather. The loss brings the Pioneers' record to 11-11 overall this season, and 5-4 in E8 play.

Utica's Christian Tiffin (Sherrill, NY/VVS) started things off in the game, as he recorded his first collegiate career home run in the third inning. St. John Fisher answered back in the bottom of the third with three runs, to take a 3-1 lead going into the fourth inning. Adam Nell ( Vernon, NY/VVS) singled to left field in the top of the fourth to bring in one run, but the Pioneers did not have enough offense to mount a comeback. The Cardinals added the insurance run in the sixth inning to end the game with a two run lead.

JT Ross (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) had a strong outing, as he batted 3-for-4 with one double in the game. Tim Quinlan (Monroe, CT/Masuck) finished 1-for-4 with one double and scored a run for the Pioneers. Tiffin went 1-for-2 with a home run, while Adam Nell ( Vernon, NY/VVS) batted 1-for-3 with an RBI. Alex Rocci (Utica, NY/Notre Dame) pitched the full game for UC allowing six hits, four earned runs, and striking out one batter in the loss. Rocci's record this season as a starter now stands at 2-3.

Fisher's Justin Graham and Thomas Pasquale both went 1-for-3 at the plate in the contest with one RBI. Jack Vivinetto finished 1-for-2 with one RBI and a double in the game. The Cardinal's pitcher Jim Dawson was credited with the win, making his record as a starter 4-0 so far this season. Dawson pitched five innings and earned four strikeouts before teammate Kyle Chambers entered the game in relief to record the save.

The Pioneers will return to action on Tuesday, as they will host Oneonta for one nine inning game. The first pitch will be thrown at 4 p.m. at the Utica College Baseball Field.
