Men's Lacrosse Heads to Elmira for Season Finale

The Utica College men's lacrosse team wraps up their 2017 season this Saturday on the road against Empire 8 opponent Elmira. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. 
 
Last Time Out:  The Pioneers lost to Hartwick, 13-10, on the road last Wednesday … Utica sophomore and reigning Empire 8 Player of the Week Jake Bratek (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt), recorded a team-high six points on four goals and two assists … Dominica Castiglia scored four goals on the day, while Brickman House (Oneida, WI/Pulaski) and Craig DiSanto (Montebello, NY/Suffern) each added one goal of their own … Goalkeeper Parker Smith (Dexter, NY/General Brown) stopped 13 shots in the game. 
 
Good and Bad News for the Pioneers: Wednesday's loss to Hartwick was a heartbreaker for Pioneers, as they are now eliminated from postseason contention … However, the Pioneers are currently 9-6 overall and 3-2 in the Empire 8 with one game left on the schedule … In the upcoming matchup with Elmira, UC still has a shot to record the first 10-win season in program history. 
 
House and Castiglia Still on Top: While Brickman House (Oneida, WI/Pulaski) only registered one goal in the Pioneers' loss to Hartwick, he still has a team-high 58 points on 34 goals and 24 assists … House is also ranked fourth in the Empire 8 in assists (1.60) and points (3.87) per game … Dominic Castiglia (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) is ranked second on the team with 53 points, as he has recorded 11 assists and a team-high 42 goals this season … Castiglia is also ranked first in the Empire 8 in shots per game (8.13) and fourth in the conference in goals per game (2.80). 
 
Smith In Net: After stopping 13 shots against Hartwick, senior goalkeeper Parker Smith (Dexter, NY/General Brown) now has a team-high 154 saves this season … He holds a record of 7-6 and is ranked second in the Empire 8 in saves per game (11.85) … Thanks to his regular season performance, the Pioneers are second in the E8 in saves per game (12.20).
 
Scouting Elmira: The Soaring Eagles are 1-11 overall and 1-6 in the Empire 8 … The only victory for the Soaring Eagles came on March 29th, at home against the Houghton Highlanders (16-5) … The team is currently on a seven game losing streak heading into this weekend's matchup … Anthony LaRusso and Nevin Olney each have a team-high 19 points … LaRusso has scored the most goals on the team this season with 17, while Olney has tallied 16 goals … The Soaring Eagles goalkeeper Cameron Prior, has recorded a team-high 160 saves in the 10 games he played in net this season. 
 
Against the Soaring Eagles: The Pioneers have won five straight games against Elmira in the past five seasons … Utica's last victory against Elmira came at home in last year's regular season finale … Castiglia recorded four points on three goals and one assist to help the Pioneers earn the 13-4 victory … Former Pioneers' goalie, Andrew DiOrio (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields), stopped 15 shots in the victory and became the third goalie in program history to record over 500 career saves.
 
Season Finale: This meeting with Elmira will be the last game of the season for the Pioneers, as they look to earn a program-record of 10 wins in a season. This Empire 8 game will begin at 1 p.m. at Elmira.
