Oneonta, NY – The Utica College women's soccer team played its first game of the 2017 season on Friday at the Erinn K. Brozman Cup, hosted by Hartwick. The Pioneers fell to Keuka College in overtime, by a score of 1-0, making UC 0-1 to start off the season.
The game was close throughout as the score remained 0-0 at the end of regulation. It wasn't until overtime when Keuka's Emily McGuigan scored off of an assist from teammate Kelsey Maurer. The goal was scored in the 91
st minute of the contest to earn a win for the Wolfpack.
The Pioneers outshot their opponent 14-9 in the contest, but were unable to finish off their opportunities.
Abby Reilly (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield) was aggressive offensively in the game taking eight shots and placing four of them on net. Last season, Reilly tallied a total of just six shots for the entire year and only getting two shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) recorded just one save in the contest.
Emily McGuigan scored the lone goal in the contest to give Keuka the win. The assist came from freshman Kelsey Maurer, in her collegiate-career debut. Goalkeeper Adriana Gunkel made seven saves in the win, playing the entire game and securing the shutout. Keuka now holds a record of 1-0 to start off the season.
UC will be back on the field in Oneonta, NY on Saturday, to face the Golden Bears from Western New England to close out the Erinn K. Brozman Cup. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 1 p.m.
