Women's Soccer Ties on Final Day of Brozman Cup

Oneonta, NY - The Utica College women's soccer team faced off against the Western New England Golden Bears on the final day of the Erinn K. Brozman Cup, hosted by Hartwick. The double-overtime game ended in a tie, with a final score of 0-0. The tie pushes the Pioneers' record to 0-1-1 after opening weekend of the 2017 season.

The Golden Bears seemed to have control of the game throughout, but were unable to finish off their opportunities. Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) placed two of her three shots on net, while Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) and Jordynn Miller (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) each took one shot of their own. Utica was only able to take five shots in the contest, while Western New England fired off 31 shots.

Sophomore goalkeeper Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) earned the shutout, making it the second of her career. Wagner made a season-high 15 saves in the contest, playing a big role in pushing the game into a tie.

Western New England was awarded seven corner kicks in the game, while UC was only given two. Alex Lemekha was in net for the Golden Bears, making three saves on her way to earning the shutout. The team's record now stands at 0-1-1.

The Pioneers will return to action on September 7th, as they will host SUNY Poly (1-0) for the 2017 home opener. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
