Utica, NY - The Utica College women's soccer team defeated Morrisville State, 5-0, on Tuesday night. The Pioneers have now won two games in a row, pushing their record to 2-2-1 on the season.
UC took control of the contest in the first half, going up 2-0 thanks to a pair of goals from
Abby Reilly (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield). Reilly scored her first two goals of the season with assists coming from
Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) and
Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley). Mazza was able to score a goal of her own early in the second half, assisted by Jordynn Miller. Utica held a 3-0 lead in the 60th minute of the match.
In the 67th minute of the game, Junior
Gabrielle Esposito (Rotterdam, NY/Mohonasen) netted her first goal of the season and gave Berkowitz her second assist on the night. Then in the final five minutes of the contest,
Jessica Levy (Coram, NY/Longwood) recorded her first goal as a Pioneer to finish off the 5-0 victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) earned her third clean sheet of the season, making five saves in the win. Morrisville's Brianna Sorriento played in net, making 11 saves for the Mustangs.
Utica controlled the tempo of the game and it showed up on the stat sheet, as well as the scoreboard. UC outshot its opponents 27-7 throughout the course of the game and drew eight corners, while the Mustangs did not earn a single corner kick attempt.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday for another away contest, against the SUNY Potsdam Bears. This non-conference game is set to kick-off at 4 p.m.
