Potsdam, NY - The Utica College women's soccer team battled Clarkson University, on the road, Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers lost, 2-0, making their record now 2-4-1 overall this season.
The contest remained scoreless until Clarkson's Camryn Careccia netted the first goal of the day in the 23rd minute.
Abby Reilly (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield) and
Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) were both able to get a shot off, but missed wide. Neither team could put together a successful opportunity for the rest of the first half, making the score 1-0 going into halftime.
The Golden Knights controlled the ball for the majority of the second half, as UC only got one shot off in the final 45 minutes. Camryn Careccia gave Clarkson a little cushion with her second goal of the contest in the 62nd minute, to make the score 2-0.
Clarkson set the tempo from the start of the game, as it outshot Utica 14-3. Goalkeeper
Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) recorded four saves in net for the Pioneers. The Golden Knights earned the shut out, as Elyse Green made one save for the team.
UC will return to the field on Wednesday, as it will host SUNY ESF. This non-conference matchup is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
