Utica, NY – The Utica College women's soccer team is back in action on Wednesday, matching up against SUNY ESF at home. This non-conference contest is set to begin at 5 p.m.
Last Time Out: In UC's last appearance, it fell to Clarkson University by a score of 2-0. Goalkeeper
Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) made four saves, as the team's record dropped to 2-4-1 overall this season.
Offense Improving: Utica struggled on the attacking end throughout the first four games of the season, scoring just one goal in that span. Since scoring that first goal of the season in a shutout win against DeSales, the team's production on offense has been much stronger. The Pioneers have now scored seven goals in the last three games, including a 5-0 blowout win over Morrisville. With conference play beginning on September 23
rd, the offense will need to continue its recently strong play.
Conference Rankings: Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) is currently third in the Empire 8 with a save percentage of .881 this season. Wagner also ranks second with 52 saves and is tied for first with three shutouts so far.
Abby Reilly (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield) is tied for second in the E8 with three goals, while
Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) has three assists and is also tied for second.
Scouting SUNY ESF: The Mighty Oaks currently boast a 3-0 record overall this season. The team has yet to allow a single goal, winning all three games with shutouts. In its last contest, ESF defeated the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Studies by a score of 3-0. Shannon Gordinier leads the team in scoring as she has tallied five goals. Lauren Archer has contributed as well, recording four goals and two assists. Goalkeeper Kiki Hilmer has made a total of 13 saves on the season so far.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will be at home again on Saturday to face-off against Nazareth. This will be the team's first Empire 8 contest of the season, beginning at 1 p.m.
