ONEONTA, NY- The Utica College field hockey team dropped a heartbreaker Tuesday afternoon as it fell to host Hartwick College 2-1 in overtime in Empire 8 Conference action. Freshman
Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) netted her first career goal in the loss.
The Hawks opened the scoring at 17:58 as Claudia Stone scored off a penalty corner, assisted by Allyson Quirk. Stone's tally held up for the next 40 minutes until Scaccia was able to put in a loose ball in front of the Hartwick net to even the score.
The Hawks tallied the game-winner just 4:37 into overtime as Maria Stalder put in a feed from Tegan Robinson to give the Hawks their second E8 win of the season.
Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) and
Carly Tebolt (Wappingers, NY/Roy C Ketcham) combined for 14 saves in the loss, while Hartwick's Allyson Osborne made eight saves in the win.
The Pioneers (5-2, 2-1 Empire 8) return to action Saturday as they travel to St. John Fisher College. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
