Volleyball Drops Pair on Day Two at Cortland

CORTLAND, NY- The Utica College volleyball team dropped a pair of games on the final day of the Red Dragon Classic, hosted by SUNY Cortland on Saturday.  UC fell to Stockton University and SUNY Cortland, both by 3-0 scores. 
 
Utica 0, Stockton 3- Game One Final
 Junior Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) led the Pioneers with five kills on the day, while classmate Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) contributed four kills on the attack.  Voss and Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) tied for the team lead with six digs apiece, while sophomore Jessica Macheda (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) was right behind them with five digs.
 
Freshman Briana Toledo (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) registered the only service ace in the game for Utica and she also chipped in with two digs.  Faronia and Macheda combined for 11 assists in the loss.
 
Utica 0, SUNY Cortland 3- Game Two Final
The Pioneers fought valiantly, but came up short against the host team.  Juniors Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) and Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) combined for 11 kills to lead the way for UC.  Freshman Briana Toledo (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) had a season-best 10 digs to lead the team. 
 
Voss chipped in on the defensive side with six digs, while Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) chipped in with five digs.  Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had a team-best 18 assists on the day.
 
The Pioneers return to action on Thursday as they welcome SUNY Cobleskill for their home opener.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
