Women's Soccer Loses E8 Opener

Utica, NY – The Utica College women's soccer team hosted Nazareth on Saturday to open up Empire 8 competition. The Golden Flyers walked away with a 4-0 victory, pushing UC's record down to 3-5-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Nazareth took an early 1-0 lead, after scoring just four minutes into the contest. The visiting team did not take long to get on the scoreboard again, netting its second goal of the game in the 12th minute. Utica's Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) was able to make seven first half saves, to keep the score at 2-0, heading into halftime.

The Pioneers were outshot by their opponents, 14-6, in the second half. This resulted in two more Nazareth scores before the end of the game. The Golden Flyers improve to 5-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Empire 8, after the 4-0 win.

Goalkeeper Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) made multiple big saves for Utica throughout the contest. Wagner finished the game with a total of 15 saves in net. Nazareth's Hannah Miller earned the shutout, stopping five shots in the game.

The Pioneers will be back on the field on September 30th for another home, conference matchup. They will play host to Houghton, as the game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
