Women's Soccer Falls to Houghton at Home

Utica, NY - The Utica College women's soccer team faced off against Empire 8 competitor Houghton on Saturday at home. The Pioneers lost to the Highlanders with a final score of 3-0. 

Houghton took an early lead, as Jessica Beattie accepted a pass from Meagan Barry to notch the first score of the game in the first 20 minutes. Kealy DeForest added to the Highlander's lead with another goal, making the score 2-0 at the 32 minute mark. Despite outshooting their opponents 8-5 in the first half, the Pioneers went into halftime trailing 2-0.

The visiting team was able to score its third goal of the game early on in the second half to putting the team up 3-0, thanks to Meagan Barry. UC drew five corner kicks in the last half of play, but was not able to find the back of the net. 

Goalkeeper Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) made a total of eight saves in the contest. The loss brings the team's record down to 3-6-1 overall and 0-2 in the Empire 8 this season.

Sadie Dunnett was in goal for the Highlanders, making ten saves on her way to recording the shutout. This game marks Houghton's first in-conference win of the season, improving its record to 3-4-1 overall and 1-1-1 in E8 play.

UC will be back in action on October 7th for another in-conference matchup, as the team heads on the road to battle St. John Fisher. The game is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
