Volleyball Falls at Houghton

HOUGHTON, NY- The Utica College volleyball team dropped a pair of Empire 8 Conference games on Saturday, falling to Stevens Institute of Technology and Houghton College, each by scores of 3-0.
 
Utica 0, Stevens 3- Game One Final
Last year's Empire 8 Conference runner-up, the Stevens Ducks picked up their 13th straight win as they downed UC 3-0 (25-8, 25-9, 25-15).
 
Juniors Allison Della Penna (Batavia, NY/Batavia) and Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) each had a team-high three kills, while Monique Fletcher (Waterford, CT/Norwich Free Academy) added two kills of her own.  Voss also tallied one service ace on the day. 
 
Defensively, Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) led the way with 16 digs, with Voss chipping in with five digs.  Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) recorded one block. 
 
Utica 0, Houghton 3- Game Two Final
The home team proved to be too much as the Highlanders downed Utica 25-16, 25-14, and 25-12.  Although Houghton defeated UC in most statistical categories, the Pioneers did record three blocks on the day, compared to Houghton's one block.
 
This time it was Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) who led the offense with seven kills, and she also tied for the team-lead with three blocks.  Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) and Monique Fletched each totaled three kills in the loss.
 
Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) also recorded three blocks and Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) led the squad with 13 digs.  Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) totaled a team-high 14 assists
 
The Pioneers return to action Monday as they travel to SUNY-Delhi.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
