UTICA, NY – The Utica College men's soccer team lost a 3-0 decision against visiting Nazareth College in Empire 8 Conference action at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium on Saturday. Utica earned a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks on the afternoon and were only out shot by one, 13-12.
Utica's record moved to 5-7 overall (0-3 E8) on the season and the Pioneers return to action back at home on Tuesday when they host SUNY Canton in non-conference play at 6 p.m.
Zach Titus gave the visiting Golden Flyers (6-3-1, 2-1 Empire 8) a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute when he rifled a shot from 30 yards out past the outstretched arms of UC goalie Jonathan Side (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh). Less than five minutes later Naz took a 2-0 lead when Josh Crespo netted his third goal of the season at 27:13.
The Golden Flyers capped the scoring on the afternoon when Matt Gasbarre punched in the third goal of the contest to seal the victory for the visitors in the 80th minute. Gasbarre's goal was assisted by Francesco Viavattene.
Jonathan Side (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) finished the night with five saves in goal for the Pioneers while Brian Wilkin stopped all five shots on goal he faced to earn the shutout for Naz.
