Utica, NY – The Utica College women's soccer team is scheduled to host SUNY Poly on Thursday for its first home game of the season. This non-conference matchup is set to begin at 6 p.m.
Last Time Out: The Pioneers recently competed in the Erinn K. Brozman Cup, hosted by Hartwick, and came away with a record of 0-1-1... Both games at the tournament went to overtime as UC lost 1-0 to Keuka and then tied Western New England 0-0 in the second game...
Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) earned the shutout against Western New England, as she finished with 15 saves in the contest.
Fire Away: Even though the Pioneers are still searching for their first goal of 2017, UC has averaged 8.5 shots per game… Junior
Abby Reilly (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield) has gotten some good looks on goal as she leads the squad with eight shots and four shots on goal… It is only a matter of time before the Pioneers find the back of the net.
Shutting the Door: Sophomore
Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) has been nearly perfect to start the season… Wagner is second in the Empire 8 with 16 saves and amongst goalies with more than 90 minutes of action so far, she leads the conference with a .941 save percentage and .447 goals against average.
Scouting SUNY Poly: After playing Bryant & Stratton in their season opener, the Wildcats are 1-0 to start off the year... Ashley O'Connor led the way as she scored both of the team's goals on the way to a 2-1 victory... Meral Evke contributed one assist in the contest and fired two shots as well... Goalkeeper Angela Bartlett earned the win as she made three saves throughout the game.
Against SUNY Poly: The last time these teams faced off, SUNY Poly came out with a 3-2 win over UC...
Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) scored the first goal of the game to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead, but the team was unable to hold off the Wildcats... The last time Utica beat SUNY Poly was during the 2014 season, winning by a score of 2-1.
Looking Ahead: Next up for the Pioneers is another home contest against DeSales University (2-0) on Saturday. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m.
