UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team scored four unanswered goals, including three in the second period to down visiting William Smith 4-2 in UCHC Conference action Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Pioneers improve to 8-8 overall and 4-4 in the UCHC. William Smith meanwhile, drops to 11-4-3 and suffers its first conference loss of the season, falling to 7-1-2 in league play. The Pioneers look to build off their momentum as they travel to Stevenson University next weekend for a UCHC series.Â

After falling down 2-0 in the first period, Utica came out flying in the second stanza, outshooting the visitors 17-4. Senior
Carlie Smith (Grimsby, Ontario/St. Catharine's Chaos) sparked the Utica rally at 7:49 as she put in a rebound for her second of the year. A point shot by
Kyra Borsoi (Brossard, Quebec/Holderness) was turned aside, but Smith was there to bang in the rebound to put the Pioneers on the board.Â
Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) was also credited with an assist on the play.

UC found the back of the net 2:20 later as freshman
Lexi Stanisewski (Lawrence, MA/Boston Shamrocks) netted her second of the year.Â
Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, CO/Norwich University) gathered the puck at the half wall and centered a feed to a wide open
Jennifer Arts (Lakeside, Ontario/London Devilettes). Arts' initial shot was stopped by goalie Maggie Salmon, but Stanisewski won the battle in front and was able to knock in the rebound to even the score.Â

Utica took its first lead of the game at 15:47 of the second period as
Jennifer Liu (North Saanich, British Columbia/Shaftesbury Titans) buried a loose puck in front for her first of the season. Dohner and junior
Danielle Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Balmoral Hall) assisted on the go-ahead goal.Â

The Pioneers killed off two five-on-three power plays in the third period to keep the one-goal lead before Dohner sealed the deal with an empty net tally with 45 seconds remaining in regulation.

Salmon made 31 saves in the loss, while sophomore
Bria Reilly (Hamden, CT/Brewster Academy) turned aside 26 shots to pick up her second win of the season. The Pioneers were 2-for-5 on the power play and held William Smith scoreless on eight chances with the man-advantage.  Â
