Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Hockey Falls at Stevenson

OWINGS MILLS, MD- The Utica College women's hockey team dropped a nail biter Friday afternoon as it fell to host Stevenson University 2-1 in UCHC Conference action.      Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) scored the lone goal for Utica.

With the loss, the Pioneers drop to 8-9 overall and 4-5 in the UCHC.  Stevenson meanwhile improves to 8-7-3 overall and 5-3-1 in conference play.  The teams will wrap up the season series Saturday afternoon.  Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

The Mustangs opened the scoring at 11:13 as Laura Brezinski fired a shot from the left hand faceoff circle that found its way into the top right hand corner of the net for her first of the year.  Natalie Rosendahl and Trinity Barcless assisted on the play.

The score remained 1-0 until 3:54 of the third period as senior Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) netted her third of the year.  Osowski entered the zone on a 2-on-2 and cut towards the middle of the ice.  She fired a backhand shot from the slot that fooled goalie Annie Smyth-Hammond and ended up just inside the left post.  Classmates Meghan Power (Windsor, Ontario/Southwest Wildcats) and Samantha Husak (Jackson, MI/Belle Tire) assisted on the equalizer.

Stevenson finally cashed in on the power play at 12:04 as Rosendahl scored her second of the season off assists from Brezinski and Siemasko.  The Mustangs finished the day going 1-for-8 on the power play, while Utica was held scoreless on five power play chances.

Bria Reilly (Hamden, CT/Brewster Academy) made 26 saves in net, while Smyth-Hammond had 30 saves for the home team.
