Women's Hockey Skates to 3-3 Tie

OWINGS MILLS, MD- The Utica College women's hockey team overcame a two-goal deficit to come away with a 3-3 tie in UCHC Conference action Saturday afternoon.

Senior Carlie Smith (Grimsby, Ontario/St. Catharine's Chaos) opened the scoring at 12:16 as she netted her third of the year, assisted by Jennifer Liu (North Saanich, British Columbia/Shaftesbury Titans) and Colby Begis (Little Elm, TX/Dallas Stars). Stevenson evened the score just over two minutes later when Chelsea Ellis put in a feed from Jordan Pirrello and Allie Burns.

The Mustangs took the lead with just 43 seconds remaining in the first as Chelsea Blackburn netted her team-leading 12th of the year.

The Mustangs extended their lead at 4:56 as Monica Pozuc put in a feed from Blackburn for her sixth goal of the season.  Sarah Antonelli also registered an assist on the power play tally.

The Pioneers responded to score two goals in 4:37 to even the score.  First, Kirsten Johnson (Brockville, Ontario/RSL Midget Thunder AA) put in a feed from Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, CO/Norwich University) for her first collegiate goal.  Then, Brown converted on the power play with her fifth of the year, assisted by Danielle Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Balmoral Hall).

Neither team was able to score in the final 20 minutes, resulting in the five-minute overtime.  Utica had two power play chances in the extra frame, but was not able to net the winner.

Sophomore Bria Reilly (Hamden, CT/Brewster Academy) made 18 saves for the Pioneers, while her counterpart, Caitie Darosa finished with 26 saves.
