Women's Tennis Seeks Revenge on SUNY Delhi

Utica, NY -- The Utica College women's tennis team is on the road Wednesday for a rematch against SUNY Delhi. This non-conference matchup is set to start at 4 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers dropped to 0-9 overall and 0-7 in the Empire 8 after losing, 7-2, to Elmira in their last match. Julianne Pieros (Alpha, NJ/Phillipsburg) earned her third singles win of the season, taking down her opponent Sarah Hill 6-1, 6-4 to receive the match point for UC. In the fourth singles slot, Christa Pham (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) won in two sets 6-2, 6-2 to provide Utica with its second and final match point of the day.

Delhi Matchup: This will be the second time this season Utica will come up against the Broncos of SUNY Delhi. In the first meeting, Delhi just squeezed by with the 5-4 win. Elma Selimovic (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor), Bianca Bockhaus (Shenorock, NY/Somers), and Julianne Pieros (Alpha, NJ/Phillipsburg) got wins in singles play, while Selimovic teamed up with Christa Pham (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) to earn the match point in the third doubles flight. The Broncos are currently 2-7 overall this season heading into Wednesday's contest.

Conference Standings: The full Empire 8 Standings are as follows: 1. Nazareth (5-0 E8), 2. St. John Fisher (5-1 E8), 3. Stevens (5-1 E8), 4. Alfred (4-2 E8), 5. Houghton (3-3 E8), 6. Sage (2-4 E8), 7. Hartwick (2-4 E8), 8. Elmira (1-5 E8), 9. Utica (0-7 E8).

Looking Ahead: The Pioneers are pulling double duty over the weekend with its final two matches of the 2018 season. UC will host Houghton on Saturday at 1 p.m. before traveling to Oswego on Sunday to close out the year.
