UTICA, NY- Senior
Abby Reilly (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield) ripped a shot from the top of the box into the upper right corner just 39 seconds into overtime to give the Utica College women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over visiting Morrisville State in non-conference action Wednesday evening.
Â
Despite outshooting the Mustangs 14-0 in the first half, Utica had nothing to show for it as the teams were tied 0-0 after 45 minutes of play. Â
Â
Morrisville was able to convert on its lone corner kick of the evening as Casey Watson headed in a centering feed from Zoe Costello to break the deadlock in the 48
th minute.
Â
The Pioneers were finally rewarded for their effort at 71:35 as junior
Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY/Poland) fired a shot from 15 yards out to even the score.Â
Gabrielle Esposito (Rotterdam, NY/Mohonasen) and
Lauren MacDonald (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) were credited with assists on Blumenstock's team-leading seventh goal of the year.
Â
Despite sustained pressure, Utica was not able to net the go-ahead and the score remained 1-1 before Reilly made short work of the overtime period.Â
Kierra Caissey (Gardner, MA/Gardner) assisted on Reilly's game-winner.
Â
Freshman
Emily Hill (Watertown, CT/Watertown) picked up the win in her first career start, while her counterpart, Jade Shimer had 20 saves in the loss.Â
