Men's Soccer Tripped up by Elmira on the Road

Utica, NY – The Utica College men's soccer team traveled to face Elmira College on Saturday, in an Empire 8 Conference matchup. The Pioneers lost, 2-1, falling to 1-4 in conference play.
 
Elmira took the lead in the 12th minute, as Ryan Wallace struck first blood in the match. The Soaring Eagles took a 1-0 advantage from Wallace's goal, with the assist going to Rodney Smith. UC drew two more corner kicks than Elmira in the first half, but entered halftime down a goal.
 
Nicolas Diaz (Commack, NY/Commack) put the Pioneers on the board in the second half with just under 25 minutes left in the match. Diaz's second score of the season was assisted by junior Thomas Muller (Camillus, NY/Bishop Ludden) as UC tied the game up at 1-1. Moments later Elmira's Mark Brado Jr. put the Soaring Eagles up 2-1 with a header, securing the win.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Randy Miksch (Lake Villa, IL/Warren Township) recorded three saves in the loss, as Utica's record now sits 4-9-1 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
 
Elmira's goalie Giovanni Garufi came up with four saves in the match, as Elmira improves to 3-11 overall and 1-4 in the Empire 8.
 
The Pioneers are back on their home turf Tuesday, October 16th, as they welcome the Mustangs of Morrisville State College. This non-conference match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
