Utica, NY -- The Utica College men's soccer team rallied from an early 1-0 deficit with goals from
Paul Mitchell (Belfast, Ireland/CBS) and
Thomas Muller (Camillus, NY/Bishop Ludden) to earn a 2-1 victory in non-conference play against Morrisville State at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium on Tuesday night. Muller's gamer-winner came with less than 14 minutes to go in regulation off a beautiful crossing pass from senior
Julian Fonseca (Rocky Hill, CT/Bridgton). Fonseca's cross landed right on the foot of a streaking Muller, who beat the Morrisville keeper on the near post to give UC the 2-1 second half advantage.
UC's
Paul Mitchell (Belfast, Ireland/CBS) netted the equalizer for Utica at 21:19 after
Andrew Ruyack (Chester, NY/Monroe Woodbury) made a nice run down the far side and crossed the ball into the middle. Mitchell collected and delivered a strike for his first goal of the season and his second in a Pioneer uniform.
UC snapped a four game slide and improved to 5-9-1 overall on the year. The Pioneers return home for senior day on Saturday as they host Houghton College in Empire 8 action at 7 p.m. at Gaetano Stadium.
Morrisville jumped out to an early 1-0 lead behind a rocket from the foot of Salu Zakari at 16:13.
The Mustangs earned 12-10 shot advantage on the evening, but the Pioneers managed a 4-3 margin in the corner kick category. Goalie
Randy Miksch (Lake Villa, IL/Warren Township) earned the victory for the Pioneers between the pipes as he stopped six shots on the afternoon.
