Utica, NY – The Utica College men's soccer team hosted Houghton College Saturday night for an Empire 8 contest. The Pioneers fell at home, 5-0, to drop to 5-10-1 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
It was Senior Day at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium as the senior class of 2019 was recognized prior to the start of the game in a short ceremony.
Houghton scored three first half goals to take a commanding 3-0 lead over UC heading into halftime. Goalkeeper
Randy Miksch (Lake Villa, IL/Warren Township) came up with one save in the opening period.
Ben Lawrence scored his second goal of the game for the visiting Highlanders in the early goings of the second half to put his team up 4-0. Houghton scored once more ten minutes later to secure the 5-0 victory, improving to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in the E8.
Utica was outshot 12-8 in the game, but tied Houghton with a total of three corner kick opportunities. Miksch finished with three saves on the night.
The Pioneers are back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Geneva , NY to face Hobart College. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
