Mazza's Hat-Trick Leads UC Past SUNY Poly 4-0

Marcy, NY – The Utica College women's soccer team traveled to face SUNY Poly Thursday night, for a non-conference matchup. Senior Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) notched her first career hat trick to lead UC to a 4-0 victory.

The Pioneers got on the board early thanks to Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY/Poland), as her 10th goal of the season put the team up 1-0. Abby Reilly (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield) headed the ball on to Blumenstock who finished past the keeper. Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) would go on to score two more goals for Utica in the first half, her first two of the year. Teammates Carly Craft (Ellenville, NY/Ellenville) and Taylor Miller (Trumansburg, NY/Charles O. Dickerson) each registered one assist, as UC held a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Mazza completed the hat trick in the first 5:41 of the second half, as her third goal of the match gave the team a 4-0 lead. Utica would cruise to the finish line, improving to 8-5-2 overall which is the most wins for the team since the 2006 season (11-8-2).

Utica outshot SUNY Poly 34-6 in the match, and drew nine corner kick opportunities while allowing the Wildcats just one. Freshman goalkeeper Emily Hill (Watertown, CT/Watertown) made three saves on her way to recording the first shutout win of her career. Hill is now 3-0 in three starts in net for UC.

SUNY Poly goalie Alysia Thomas came up with 16 saves in the loss at home. The Wildcats are now 1-13-1 overall on the year.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday for a key Empire 8 battle with Hartwick on the road. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 1 p.m.
