Field Hockey Closes Season on Saturday at Naz

Utica, NY -- The Utica College field hockey team is on the road Saturday for its final game of the year. The team will travel to face Nazareth for an Empire 8 battle, starting at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out: UC hosted Hartwick for a conference matchup in its last match, falling 3-2 to the Hawks. Jeslyn Files (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) redirected a shot for a goal, while Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) knocked in a score as well. Ricki Haab (Stowe, VT/Stowe) and Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) recorded one assist each in the game. Carly Tebolt (Wappingers, NY/Roy C Ketcham) made six saves as the Pioneers dropped to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in the E8, mathematically eliminating them from making the conference tournament this season.

Farewell Seniors: With Saturday's contest marking the last game of the year, it will also be the seniors' final match of their careers. Jessica Belt (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder), Rylee Meelan (Clinton, NY/Clinton), Madison Babicz (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford), Natalie Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford), Maria Orsino (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit), Paige Mapley (Meridan, NY/Cato-Meridan), and Carly Tebolt (Wappingers, NY/Roy C Ketcham) will all take the field for the last time against Nazareth.

Next Year's Returners: Although Utica is graduating seven seniors after this season, the team has multiple key contributors that will be back again next year. Sophomore Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) will return as she currently leads UC with six assists and is second on the squad with four goals. Ricki Haab (Stowe, VT/Stowe), Josie Sgarlata (Canastota, NY/Canastota), and Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) have all scored three goals this season and will be back for more in 2019. Goalie Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) will also return next year, as she has tallied 111 saves as a freshman.

Scouting Nazareth: The Golden Flyers are 8-10 overall and 3-4 in the Empire 8 heading into this weekend's matchup. Naz is on a two game losing skid, and has lost three of its last four contests. Jessica Livesey is the team's top contributor, owning team-high marks of 12 goals, eight assists, and 34 points. Top goalie, Kimber Nourse has made a total of 146 saves this season during her time in net.

Season Wrap-Up: With no post-season play coming up for the Pioneers, the conclusion of Saturday's match will mark the end of the 2018 season.
