Utica, NY – The Utica College women's basketball team is ready for its home opener on Tuesday night against Oneonta. The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
Last Time Out: In their last game the Pioneers took care of business on the road, taking down Wells College 65-47 to improve to 2-0 to start the year.
Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) and
Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) led the way for UC in the contest. Pryzgoda notched 13 point, 14 rebound double-double while Johndrow put up a career-high 20 points.
Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) also reached double-digits, finishing with 10 points on the way to a win.
Running the Show: Guards
Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) and
Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) have been controlling the pace on offense for Utica. Over the first two games, the backcourt duo has combined to average 28 points, nine rebounds, and 10.5 assists per game. Both players have scored in double-figures in both games so far this season and look to continue putting up big numbers across the board.
Cleaning up the Glass: With freshman
Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) leading the pack, UC has four members of the squad grabbing at least five boards per game so far. Johndrow is grabbing exactly five a game, while
Briannah Florian (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) is averaging 5.5 rebounds a game. Senior
Cortlynn Jepsen (Hudson, NY/Hudson) has given great effort off the bench, securing a total of 6.5 boards per game. Pryzgoda leads the team with a mark of 9.5 rebounds a game, and has one double-double early in her freshman campaign with Utica. In the win over Wells, Sydney came up with nine offensive rebounds to give UC extra possessions.
Scouting Oneonta: The Oneonta Red Dragons are 3-0 to open the season, after recently taking home first place at the Morin Memorial Classic at Williams College. Oneonta defeated Salem State, 66-46, in the semifinals before taking down the host school Williams, 50-48 in the championship game. The Red Dragons are led by Olivia Allrich's 13.3 points per game on the offensive side of the ball. Teammate Madeline Frank is currently averaging a double-double with marks of 11.7 point and 10.7 boards per game.
Last Year's Matchup: When these two teams met up last season, Oneonta took home a 60-40 win over UC.
Briannah Florian (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) finished with eight points, while teammate
Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) scored five points. Alexa Amalbert was the leading scorer for the Red Dragons, as she recorded a game-high 16 points.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will be back on their home court after the Thanksgiving Weekend, as they play host to nearby Hamilton College. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. on Monday.
