Utica, NY – The Utica College women's basketball team is back on its home court Monday, as it plays host to the nearby Hamilton College. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m.
Last Time Out: UC fell to SUNY Oneonta, 50-46, in its last game, dropping to 2-1 on the season. Strong defense secured Utica a 25-13 lead at halftime, but the visiting Red Dragons really got it going offensively in the second half to comeback and win.
Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) had a solid all-around game as she finished with a game-high 17 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.
Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) put up 13 points, while freshman
Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) snagged a game-high 11 rebounds.
Glass Cleaner: Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) has proven to be a true rebounder thus far into her freshman campaign. Constantly working for position and fighting for the rebound has secured her a place in the starting lineup. Przygoda is currently averaging a double-double, with per game marks of 10 points and 10 rebounds. She is the top rebounder on the team early in the season and does good work on both ends of the floor cleaning the glass. Sydney has an even split of 15 defensive and 15 offensive rebounds so far in her first year with the Utica.
Stepping up to Score: After graduating two 1,000-point scorers at the end of last season, the Pioneers had a huge hole to fill in their offense going into this year.
Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) and
Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) are finding success as they have stepped up to fill the team's need for scoring. Both are averaging over double-digit points for the first time in their careers and are each playing at least 36 minutes per game. Conkin's season high of 17 points and Johndrow's high of 20 points displayed flashes of what they are capable of doing on the offensive end this season.
Scouting Hamilton: The Hamilton Continentals are 2-0 prior to the weekend, with a game against SUNY Poly to be played on Saturday. In the team's last contest it defeated SUNY Potsdam, 68-62, on the road. Halie Serbent was a dominant force in the win, posting a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds which was sweetened by her two assists and three steals. Teammate Elizabeth Arnold scored 15 points in the game and grabbed six boards as well. Serbent leads the Continentals with an average of 19.5 points per game, with Arnold and Kelcie Zarle each averaging double-digits as well.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will play its third straight home competition on Thursday, as they welcome the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m.
