Women's Hockey Powers Past Chatham

UTICA, NY- Five different players scored to help the Utica College women's hockey team down visiting Chatham University 5-0 in UCHC Conference action Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Pioneers improve to 5-0 to start the season.  Utica has also outscored its opponents 15-0 over the last three games.  UC and Chatham will wrap up the season series on Saturday at nearby Whitestown Community Center.  Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Pioneers opened the scoring halfway through the first period as junior Olivia Hirschy (Fort Wayne, IN/Culver Academies) put in a feed from classmate Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, CO/Norwich University) for her second of the season.  Senior Kayla Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks) was also credited with an assist on the play.

Just 43 seconds later, Dion netted her first of the year off a centering pass from Georgiana Santullo (Woburn, MA/Boston Shamrocks/Woburn High School).  Lexi Stanisewski (Lawrence, MA/Boston Shamrocks) also assisted on the power play tally.

The Pioneers extended their lead at 9:09 of the second period as senior Taylor Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks) won a race for a loose puck just inside the Chatham zone.  Dion fended off a defender, gained control of the puck, and slid it between the legs of goalie Devon Strachan for her third of the year.

Stanisewski put in one of her own at 11:39 of the second as she split the Chatham defenders and buried her second of the year.  Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) and Sirena Fitzery (Hamburg, NY/Buffalo Bisons) assisted on the play.

Utica capped off the scoring at 10:14 of the third when Dohner found the back of the net for her third of the year.  Stanisewski and Santullo assisted on Utica's fifth tally.

Junior Bria Reilly (Hamden, CT/Brewster Academy) made 14 saves for her second straight shutout, while Strachan and Katy Reed combined for 30 saves in the loss.
