MORRISVILLE, NY- The Utica College women's basketball team outscored host Morrisville State 27-12 in the third quarter as it cruised to a 77-67 win over the Mustangs in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers improve to 5-3 on the year. They will return to action after the winter break as they travel to Union College on Sunday, Dec. 30. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.

After finishing the first quarter tied 17-17, the Pioneers began to pull away and took a 40-34 lead into halftime. Utica came out flying to start the second half as the Pioneers built up a 21-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Freshman
Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) led the way for Utica with a career-high 27 points and she also added 16 rebounds to pick up her fifth double-double of the season.  Przygoda remains at the top of the Empire 8 conference with an average of 12.9 rebounds per game. She is one of just two players averaging over 10 rebounds per outing.Â

Senior
Briannah Florian (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) finished second on the squad with 12 points, while freshman
Petrina DeMarco (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) totaled 10 points and had a team-high three steals. Sophomore
Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) chipped in with eight points and dished out a game-high five assists, and
Cora Sawyer (New London, CT/New London) and
Marissa Woods (Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) combined for 12 points off the bench.Â

Utica controlled the game down low as the Pioneers scored 46 points in the paint, while holding the Mustangs to just 12 points in the key.Â
