Utica, NY – The Utica College women's basketball team hosted the SUNY Poly Wildcats for some non-conference action on Saturday. The Pioneers lost to the visiting Wildcats, 68-61, falling to 4-3 on the season.
Freshman
Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) set new career-high in rebounds, finishing with 17 points and 18 boards to secure her fourth double-double of the year.
Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) scored 14 points and teammate
Briannah Florian (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) tallied 13 points and six rebounds.
Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) did a little bit of everything, coming away with nine points, six boards, and five assists.
UC took a 14-6 lead mid-way through the first quarter, which led to a five-point advantage heading into the second quarter. SUNY Poly's second quarter scoring evened out the scoreboard, cutting Utica's lead to just one point going into halftime.
The Wildcats kept the high scoring going in the third quarter, outscoring UC 22-17 in the third. SUNY Poly held a 53-49 lead going into the fourth and final period of play. Solid free throw shooting in the final minutes of the game kept it close, but the Pioneers were unable to recapture the lead.
SUNY Poly improves to 5-2 overall on the season after earning the seven point victory. Molly Burdick led the Wildcats with 20 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Rylie Smith scored 17 off the bench and teammate Kiersten Leos added 16 points of her own.
The Pioneers return to action on December 15
th when they travel to face Morrisville State College. The game is set to tip-off that Saturday at 12 p.m.
