Utica, NY –
Avery Coston (Kerhonkson, NY/Rondout Valley), of the Utica College men's basketball team, was selected to the Empire 8 All-Tournament team to cap off his freshman campaign.
Coston averaged 11.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game and made the biggest basket of his career thus far during the E8 Tournament. In the semifinals against Stevens, he finished with nine points, two rebounds, and made the game-winning 3-pointer as time expired to send the Pioneers to the finals for the first time since 2007. It was also UC's first win against Stevens, in the E8 Tournament, in program-history.
As Utica faced off with Nazareth in the championship game, Coston continued his valued production. He was one of four players to score in double-figures for the Pioneers, tallying 14 points, five boards, and four assists in a career-high 35 minutes of playing time. Throughout the tournament, Coston shot 8-for-14 from the field (57.1%) and 5-for-7 (71.4%) from beyond the 3-point arc.
UC's season came to an end after falling to Nazareth in the E8 Tournament Finals (66-64), closing the year with a 17-10 record overall.
