Women's Lacrosse Pulls Away from Albright

SPARKS, MD- The Utica College women's lacrosse team outscored Albright College 12-2 in the second half to come away with a 17-5 victory over the Lions at Tierney Field at the US Lacrosse Headquarters Tuesday evening. Freshman Stephanie Husnay (Canastota, NY/Whitesboro) led the way with four goals and one assist.
 
After falling down 2-0 in the first seven minutes of the game, the UC responded with three straight goals and ended up taking a 5-3 lead into halftime.  Utica came out flying in the second half as the Pioneers rattled off six goals in 6:56 to take a commanding 11-3 lead.  UC tacked on six more scores before the half was over to run away with the win.
 
Utica, which had only scored two goals off free positions in its previous three games, exploded for seven free position goals en route to their second win of the season. 
 
Husnay had a career day as she recorded a season-high five points, while junior Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) also netted four goals on the day.  Brooke Miller (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy), Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody), Hailee DuMont (Wilkes-Barre, PA/James M. Coughlin), and Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) each had two goals and Katie McDowell (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) found the back of the net for her third of the year. 
 
DuMont and Natalie Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford) led the way with three caused turnovers each, with DuMont also scooping up three ground balls and collecting two draw controls.  Scarpinella and Palmer shared the team-lead with four draw controls apiece and Palmer also picked up four ground balls.
 
Sophomore Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central) made nine saves in net and led the team with five ground balls, while her counterpart, Terae Mason had 10 save sin the loss.
 
The Pioneers wrap up their spring break trip on Wednesday as they face Southern Vermont College.  Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
