Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Downs Morrisville for 3rd Straight Win

MORRISVILLE, NY- The Utica College women's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as it downed host Morrisville State 21-8 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.  Sophomore Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) led UC with five goals and one assist.

The Pioneers picked up their third straight win and improved to 4-2 overall.  UC will remain on the road on Saturday as it travels to Oswego State.  Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Utica wasted little time getting on the board as freshman Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody) buried a feed from classmate Stephanie Husnay (Canastota, NY/Whitesboro) for her fifth of the year.  UC kept up the pressure as it scored three goals in 1:16, off the sticks of Husnay, Brooke Miller (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy), and Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) to put the Pioneers up 4-0 with 24:49 remaining in the first half.  Utica tacked on four more scores over the next 16 minutes, one each for Husnay and Miller, and two by Noelle Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford) to take a commanding 8-1 lead.

Morrisville was able to score two tallies before the end of the first half to make the score 8-3 at halftime, however the Pioneers outscored the Mustangs 13-5 in the second stanza to pick up the win.

Wolff and Palmer each finished with five goals, while Miller had four goals, and Husnay had two goals and three assists.  Junior Katie McDowell (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) found the back of the net twice and Natalie Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford) had one goal and one assist.  Sophomore Hailee DuMont (Wilkes-Barre, PA/James M. Coughlin) also registered one assist on the day.

Natalie Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford) and Palmer led the way with six draw controls each, with Capriglione also caused a team-high five turnovers and led the squad with five ground balls.

Sophomore Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central) made 12 saves to pick up the win, marking her second outing this season with over 10 saves.
