UTICA, NY – The Utica College men's lacrosse team lost to visiting Nazareth College 19-4 in Empire 8 Conference action on Saturday at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
Jake Bratek (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt),
Tyler Giachinta (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane),
Jared Smaldon (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and
Michael Foresti (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) each netted one goal for the Pioneers in the loss.
Utica's record moved to 6-8 overall and 2-4 in the E8, while Nazareth improved to 5-11 overall and evened its record at 3-3 in conference play. Giachinta also added one assist to lead UC with two points on the afternoon. Freshman

Jimmy Vienneau (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) each chipped in with one assist. Vinneau capped his day with six ground balls and one caused turnover.

Nick Alexander (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) added three ground balls and one caused turnover for the Pioneer defense.

Jared Smaldon (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and
Craig DiSanto (Montebello, NY/Suffern) each caused one turnover.
Harrison Bower (Northport, NY/Kings Park) got the start in net for Utica and stopped nine shots in the loss. Freshman
Ryan Boshart (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) relieved Bower at halftime and made 11 second half saves for the Pioneers.
Paul Walter racked up a game-high six points for Nazareth as he posted four goals and two assists. Anthony Basile and Kevin Hussey each added five points on three goals and two assists. Four other Golden Flyers finished the day with three points.
Naz earned a 39-10 shots on goal advantage and the Golden Flyers also won 18-of-26 face-offs to control the pace of play.
The visitors jumped out to a 12-0 halftime lead and never looked back. The Pioneers threatened with a four goal third quarter, but the Golden Flyers tacked on three more goals in the final quarter to earn the 15 goal victory.
Utica wraps up regular season play on Saturday when it hosts Alfred University on senior day at Gaetano Stadium. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
