Fisher Overpowers UC at Home on Sunday

Utica, NY – The Utica College baseball team hosted St. John Fisher on Sunday for a single, nine-inning contest to close out the three-game series. UC held a 6-5 lead heading into the sixth, but the visiting Cardinals would score six unanswered runs to close out the game and earn the 11-6 win.

The third baseman, Tim Quinlan (Monroe, CT/Masuck), had a strong outing at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and three RBI's. Quinlan connected for a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning and an RBI single to left field in the third inning.

Tom Carrigan (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) recorded a base-clearing double in the bottom of the fourth to bring in three runs for the Pioneers. Carrigan finished the game 1-for-4 at the plate with three RBI's and one run scored.

Mark Spina (Frankfort, NY/Frankfort-Schuyler) opened the game up on the mound for Utica, pitching 3.2 innings and giving up three earned runs. Spina also struck out three batters before being relieved in the fourth.

Kolbie Glionna (Hagaman, NY/Amsterdam) stepped to the rubber as the mid-game reliever for Spina in the fourth inning. Glionna (0-1) surrendered six earned runs, as he was given the losing decision. He also struck out three St. John Fisher batters during his 3.2 innings of work.

The loss pushes UC's record down to 12-13 overall and 4-8 in Empire 8 Conference competition.

The Cardinals were led by Scott Eisenmenger's 3-for-4 day at the dish, which included an RBI double in the third and a three-run homer in the eighth. Teammate Vic Konstantinovsky was 2-for-5 at the plate with two RBI's, coming from his home run in the sixth inning.

Jared Wren started on the hill for Fisher but was relieved by Pat Galer in the fourth inning. Galer was taken out later in the fourth and was replaced by Dillan Wilkinson (2-0). Wilkinson struck out six batters in 4.1 innings of action and received the win.

St. John Fisher's record improves to 21-9 overall and 9-3 against conference opponents.

The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday as they travel to battle SUNY Poly for a non-conference doubleheader. Game one of the set is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
