NEW PALTZ, NY- The Utica College field hockey team jumped out to a quick start, but it was not enough as New Paltz ran away with a 7-1 win in non-conference action Saturday.

UC got on the board just 6:08 into the contest as junior
Josie Sgarlata (Canastota, NY/Canastota) netted her first of the year, assisted by classmate
Joanna Gaertner (Schuylerville, NY/Schuylerville). The Hawks responded less than six minutes later, scoring two goals in 11 seconds to swing the momentum.Â

The home team added another tally three minutes later to take a 3-1 lead into halftime. Â The second half was all New Paltz as the Hawks tacked on four more scores to come away with the victory.

Carly Tebolt (Wappingers, NY/Roy C Ketcham) combined for seven saves in the loss. Sophomore
Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) led the Pioneers with four shots on goal.
