Utica, NY – The Utica College men's soccer team hosted St. John Fisher on Saturday for an Empire 8 matchup. UC fell to the visiting Cardinals, 1-0, as its record drops to 2-5-1 overall and 0-2 within the conference.
Both teams traded opportunities throughout most of the game, as Utica outshot its opponent 17-12 in the contest. Although Fisher placed more shots on net (9 shots on goal), the Pioneers drew eight corner kicks compared to Fisher's four.
The Pioneer goalkeeper,
Jonathan Side (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh), made eight saves in the match back in net.
Brennan Brown scored the lone goal of the game for St. John Fisher, coming off of the assist from Joe Balls. Goalkeeper Justin Miles earned the shutout with one save, as the team improves to 1-6-1 overall and 1-1 against E8 opponents.
The Pioneers are back home on Tuesday, as they play host to the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. This non-conference matchup is scheduled to kick-off at 4 p.m.
