Houghton, NY – 11 different players scored for the Pioneers, but it was not enough as the host Houghton College women's basketball team cruised past Utica College 98-58 in Empire 8 Conference action on Saturday. Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) led the Pioneers with 15 points and four assists. 

UC (6-7, 1-3 Empire 8) returns to action on the road Tuesday night when it caps a seven game road trip at conference foe Hartwick College at 5:30 p.m. Houghton improved to 9-5 overall and 2-3 in E8 action. 

Houghton scored a minimum of 22 points in each quarter and held the Pioneers to 14 or fewer points in three of four quarters to earn the convincing conference victory.  The Highlanders led 47-28 at the half and went on to outscore the Pioneers 24-9 in the final 10 minutes to win by 40 points.  

Five different Highlanders scored in double figures, led by Emily Swanson's 16 points and a 14 point, 10 rebound effort from Brooke Lewandowski. 

Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) added seven points and six rebounds for the Pioneers.  Petrina DeMarco (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) chipped in with five points.  Alayna Cormier (Williamsburg, VA/Warhill) came off the bench and totaled eight points in 11 minutes of work.  Kimberly Soriano (Queens, NY/Monsignor McClancey Memorial) added six points on 2-of-5 shooting from behind the arc.
