ONEONTA, NY- The Utica College women's basketball team fell to host Hartwick College 92-52 in Empire 8 Conference action Tuesday evening.
The Hawks jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they cruised to their fifth conference win of the season. Hartwick sits atop the E8 with a 5-1 mark in league play (12-3 overall). The Pioneers meanwhile drop to 6-8 overall and 1-4 in the Empire 8. The Pioneers will look to rebound on Friday as they return home to host St. John Fisher College. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Freshman
Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) led the Pioneers with 14 points and 11 rebounds, marking her 10
th double-double of the season. Classmate
Cora Sawyer (New London, CT/New London) totaled a career-high 10 points in 16 minutes of work off the bench.
Junior
Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) chipped in with eight points and
Kimberly Soriano (Queens, NY/Monsignor McClancey Memorial) and
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) combined for 11 points on the evening.
Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic),
Marissa Woods (Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley), and
Jeslyn Files (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) also had points for Utica.
Hartwick had four players with more than 10 points in the win, led by Carly Johnson, who scored 20 points, including 6-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc.
